The Four Applications that can Help You with Postcards Design by Maureen Pelayo
You’ve got fewer worries these days for your postcards design concerns. There is a lot of software that can help you in this regard. And the right printing company usually has pre-designed templates that you can use for free as long as you avail their services.
But as time goes on, you will need to reinvent your ads. You may utilize postcards, brochures, catalogs, flyers and the likes over and over again. But you must learn to tweak the important elements of these materials to suit the promotion that you are running. If you have the budget, you can also hire a pro to do this task. But if you think you can do it given the right equipment, then don’t let anything stop you.
Here’s a list of some of the software available in the market that can help you with postcards design as well as the other kinds of print ads and campaign materials. These are mostly easy to use. You just have to keep on practicing the tools until you get used to them.
1. Do you know how to do Magic? When it comes to design, the tricks can be easily done with Photoshop. Remove all imperfections. Create different kinds of impressions. Experiment with hues, layering and colors. You can use the application for different types of graphic files. This also comes with the ImageReady application that you can use to synchronize your prints’ design to the one on your website. This will also work hand in hand with other Adobe programs such as Indesign and Illustrator. And there are packages available both for Macintosh and Windows operating systems.
2. The InDesign application from Adobe is a very user-friendly desktop publishing tool that can be handy when it comes to page layout. Just through practice, you will be able to grasp its settings, including the tools and filters. You can use this alongside other Adobe useful applications. And this will also work well both for Windows and Macintosh setups.
3. Quark, Inc. hit it big in the desktop publishing scene with the introduction of QuarkXPress. Through this, you can easily make just about any kind of files that are ready to be sent to your chosen printing company. Such files include brochures, business cards, company forms, even newspapers and a lot more. You can experiment with colors or you can also choose black and white theme. Experiment with various graphics as well as stylized text. With this application, you’ve got complete control over your materials. You can create them to suit the offset method of printing or convert your files to be directed to digital printing.
4. For Illustration purposes, you can trust another Adobe application which is the Illustrator. This program lets you create graphics and images that you can use both for print and Web purposes. This is a drawing program above anything else. And this is compatible to be used for other Adobe applications. This can also be installed both for Windows and Macintosh systems.
Now all you have to do is decide which program you’d want to master and work on your own postcards design immediately after. This takes personal service up another level indeed.

USED: Dreamboat Annie Live [DVD] $11.99 There’s no shortage of live material in the Heart catalog, but it’s still hard to fault a gracefully aging band for showing off its tricks. While other ’70s and ’80s mainstays sound withered and strained 25 years after their heyday, the Wilson sisters have taken care of themselves. Dreamboat Annie Live finds them playing their band’s debut in its entirety, from the iconic rhythmic thump of “Magic Man” to the harmony-laden melodies in the title track’s reprise. Often lean and tight, the music also veers into orchestrated territory with a six-piece string section (which is employed to stunning effect on “How Deep It Goes”). A handful of classic rock covers are thrown in for the encore, pairing Ann Wilson’s well-preserved pipes with tracks by Led Zeppelin and the Who. Ann may not have the range to still tackle such follow-up hits as “Alone,” but she’s nevertheless solid on this disc, nailing the melodies with a throaty wail that many of her contemporaries have steadily worn away with the snowballing effect of alcohol, drugs, and general rock & roll hedonism. For those fans who prefer Heart’s early material to the slick, hairsprayed singles of the ’80s, Dreamboat Annie Live is a reminder that this band did — and, indeed, does — rock the boat.
